4” Tray

A small leather tray 4" in diameter. Made from two pieces of leather wet molded and adhered together. Hand dyed.

About Wet Molding: Vegetable tanned leather is unique in its ability to retain the shape it dried in after being soaked in water. In this case the leather was soaked and then pressed and dried around a wooden form to give it this shape. Adding heat to this process increases the stiffness of the leather by causing the protein in the leather to restructure itself.
